Shopping is always enjoyable for me, but shopping in Barcelona is euphoria! My mom and I wandered the streets by las ramblas, which are known for boutiques and unique pieces. We went into shops featuring zipper clothing, leather items, and intricate jewelry. After dropping an obscene amount of money (thankfully not my own) we stopped at a cafe to recharged. I remember my mom having a revelation that she understands the beauty of taking your time and enjoying yourself, even if it just means sitting in a cafe and drinking coffee for an hour or two. I don’t think either of us would ever fully acclimate to that type of lifestyle, but it’s interesting to have that moment when you appreciate different aspects of other cultures. Deep thought of the day, think about it.

When my parents came to visit, we met up in Barcelona for a few days to do some sightseeing and day trips. Since I’ve been to Barcelona more than I’d like to admit, the most memorable experience for me was taking a day trip north of the city along the coast. The first stop was torras del mar, a small seaside village that used to be a fort. The old part was overlooking a small beach, lined with a plethora of restaurants and cafes. The fort lay out across a point so you could always see a different view of the ocean. I loved walking through the small cobblestone streets and watching my mom take pictures every other step! Although the seaside towns were gorgeous, my favourite part of the trip was visiting the medieval villages that spot the interior of the region. Pals was about a 30 minute drive from the coast and was definitely worth the time. All the medieval towns were recognizable by the church at the centre, surrounded by a cluster of little shops and residences. The drive back to Barcelona was beautiful with the greenest grass I’ve seen in a while and panoramic views of the sun peeking through the clouds and bathing the rolling landscape. Well that is as poetic I can get at describing the trip, hopefully it paints a picture of why I fell in love with this region!
